Services for Children & Families

We all share a responsibility for the safety and well-being of children.  Bruce Grey Child & Family Services acts on behalf of the community to ensure that children are safe from harm.  We have teams of professionals who are responsible for intake & assessment of concerns and ongoing services to children & families.  Our emergency after-hours service provides support and urgent services in the evenings and on weekends.  We are always available to protect children and support families.

Brief definitions of abuse and neglect

Abuse is hurting a child physically or emotionally or by sexual molestation or exploitation.

Neglect is failing to provide proper care or depriving a child of support and affection.

For more information, see the ‘understanding abuse and neglect’ page or visit www.useyourvoice.ca.

Legal responsibility to report child maltreatment (“Duty to Report”)

Any person who suspects that a child might require protection from abuse, neglect or other forms of maltreatment, must report those concerns immediately and directly to a child welfare agency. In Grey and Bruce Counties, please call Bruce Grey Child & Family Services at 519.371.4453 or 1.855.322.4453. Our telephone lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

At Bruce Grey Child & Family Services, we believe that it is best for children to remain in their homes, whenever possible.

However, on occasion, we may need to bring a child or youth into our temporary care for their safety. While we work with the parents to enable their child to return home, we provide safe and nurturing family environments for the children.  If the child is unable to return to the care of their parents, we are committed to finding other “forever” families for the children.
